J.S. Park is a pastor, blogger, former atheist, fifth degree black belt, hospital chaplain, recovered porn addict, intense introvert, and he loves Jesus.
He has a B.A. in Psychology from USF and Master's from SEBTS.
In 2012, he gave away half his income to fight human trafficking.
It was a check for $10,000, which was matched to raise another 10k, for a total of $20,000 for charity. The charity was One Day's Wages.

Just like one of us . . .

Think you're too big a sinner to be saved by God's grace? Think you've crossed the line one too many times? Do you wonder how God could possibly use you in His kingdom? Pastor Park gives us The Life of King David: From Stone Slinger to Royal Sinner . . . and through David's story, we can see so many correlations to our own lives. I'm a Christian, but even when I was not following Jesus as I try to do today, I would find myself sitting looking up at the sky and saying "God, do you see me? Where are you? Who are you? Are you there?" David, as a young boy, would do that while he tended his sheep - writing many of the Psalms we read today. God chose him to become King over His people, Israel. Was David perfect? No, far from it. Pastor Park goes through the Scripture surrounding David's life - his really great moments, and his really horrible moments. David was a hero. And he was a zero. And everything in between. With great sensibility, and with no accusations or put-downs, and a very humble approach, Park relates David's story to our own plight in today's world. A recommended read for both Christian and non-Christian - J.S. Park's insight into the human condition is based on his own life - in trials and struggles, and successes. I think, like David, Park is just one of us - seeking and knowing where all answers are found, in WHOM they are found - and he has a gift to bring that to life in his writing.

David has never been my favorite OT guy

I learn so much about God through the Old Testament. That being said, David has never been my favorite OT guy. I just never could seem to get over that whole Bathsheba fiasco. But this book got me over it. JS Park helped me realize that I AM DAVID. I am a mess capable of good things because of the great God David and I serve. I love how the book includes both narrative and, for lack of a better word, preachy elements. I always appreciate how JS Park approaches life and sin and redemption and discovering God alongside us and never from a position of pride and I-have-it-figured-out-ness. That being said, he does have wisdom and a great gift of crafting powerful sentences like this: "When we're no longer afraid of outliving our usefulness, we become free to enjoy each other instead of performing to keep each other." JS Park brought imagery and life lessons from the story of David that I had never heard before, which definitely surprised me since David is very much talked about in churches all over the place (in fact, my pastor is currently doing a series on David). I very much enjoyed the book and will probably enjoy it again in a couple of years or so when I need a reminder of how good our God is and how much we need Him and each other.

Beyond biography, grace for today.

Pastor Park's book goes beyond biography, and deeper than any Sunday school lesson to help the readers connect with and see themselves in David. Even more importantly, readers will see how David's life demonstrated the Gospel of God's redeeming love through Jesus Christ.
