This Book of Enoch needs to be in the hands of every serious Bible student as an indispensable aid in understanding the New Testament regarding the evolution of theology between 200 BC and 100 AD, and also the Old Testament concerning problem prophetical passages. The book was written by a number of Jewish writers around the second century BC, and was considered inspired Scripture in the century before Christ and up to the third century AD by such early Church Fathers, as Justin Martyr, Origen, Clement of Alexandria, and Tertullian. It was eventually removed from the canon of Scripture in the fourth century and was virtually lost to Western Christendom until the early 1800s AD, when Laurence published the first English translation based upon a single Ethiopic manuscript. There are several other popular versions in print today, but the only translation worthy of serious study is the R.H. Charles edition, published in the early 1900s after twenty years of extensive research. His translation is based upon 23 Ethiopic manuscripts and all available source fragments of the time. Compared to other translations, the Charles version is quite exhaustive in the number of pages (nearly twice as many as other editions). He, alone, offers an extensive, in-depth Introduction of over 100 pages, and a comprehensive analysis and criticism of the text, plus accurate verse numbering. This is definitely the version to purchase without question! Two other important ancient books readers might want to consider are The Book of Jasher Referred to in Joshua and II Samuel (1840 edition), and The Book of Jubilees translated from the Ethiopic by Schodde, offered by Artisan Publishers. A Review of This Edition - Not a Review of the Original Text

I am writing this review to assist the reader in selecting an EDITION of the Book of Enoch. This particular Edition is exceptionally scholarly - but not particularly readable for casual students or "simply curious" individuals. I am in complete agreement with previous reviewers that "The Book of Enoch ...(is) as an indispensable aid in understanding the New Testament regarding the evolution of theology between 200 BC and 100 AD..." Clearly, this collection of "Lost Books & Manuscripts" contains critical (and vastly under-considered) information relevant to Christianity, Judaism & Islam. However, the footnotes in this Edition vastly outweigh the text. Example: one page contained two lines of text and the entire remainder of the page was footnotes. (I am an attorney, and this volume made law school text books seem like Comic Books in comparison.) Although footnotes are undoubtedly essential to understanding the text, many of the footnotes in this edition contain lengthy paragraphs of the original Aramaic or Hebrew or Greek or Ethiopian texts - written in their original languages. So, even "skimming" the footnotes requires wading through several lines of very tiny text written in other languages. Additionally, the footnotes presuppose a familiarity with theological studies that most readers (including myself) do not have. In sum, "The Book of Enoch" is a MUST READ for anyone who wishes to fully understand the roots and contexts from which modern religion evolved. BUT, unless you are a serious Theological Scholar, I would suggest you find an edition that is perhaps annotated in a more "readable" and less "scholarly" fashion.

surprised by 3 things

I ordered this book, The Book of Enoch, on April 9, 2010. A nice surprise when the book arrived was the book's final page that says "Made in the USA, Lexington, KY, 10 April 2010". A freshly printed copy!

Surprise #2 was found on a beginning page..."Forgotten Books takes the uppermost care to preserve the wording and images from the original book. However, this book has been scanned and reformatted from the original, and as such we cannot guarantee that it is free from errors or contains the full content of the original." I wanted a "full content" and probably got it. It is a beautifully done book and I'm glad I blindly ordered this edition.

Surprise #3 was a note in the back of the book concerning many books free to read on their web site. On going to the site, it appears that you need a membership to read them but you don't. A very nice bonus! Lots of books there among my interests.

Take it with a grain of salt.

An extremely speculative work about the real quest for the Grail in the late 1930's and early 1940's. He gives at least two new definitions as to what the grail is: 1) The Cup of Moses, 2) A series of enruned tablets. He details the life and mistakes made by Otto Rahn in his quest to get published under the Nazi regime. He doesn't go so far as hinting that Rahn deliberately thwarted Nazi attempts to use his knowledge to plunder Mont Segur. Rather he believes that Rahn got it wrong in his researches. Some of his theories on Otto Rahn's demise are quite intriguing, but any suggestion that he lived long enough to form a secret society are somewhat problematic. The book does contain some relatively unknown and quite entertaining history about supercommando Otto Skorzeny's last days though.

Hoax?

There is no possibility of giving zero stars ... so I give one star for sheer dubiousness. The whole book is filled with highly speculative stories and straight out inaccuracies. I have concentrated on the chapter on Otto Skorzeny (since I recently wrote a short biography on him) and his supposed discovery of the Ark et al. near Montségur, but very little in this chapter could be verified. Skorzeny never was near the region during that time, let alone finding any Cathar treasure. Buechners sources are also very badly chosen and I have written to the author asking for better reference some time ago. Unsurprisingly I received no answer. This book is great late night or travelling trash reading, read it like a rollercoaster science fiction novel, but don't forget, the Nazis did not discover the Grail. However, one really has to wonder, why Dr. Buechner, who supposedly was the first doctor to attend to the liberated inmates of Dachau concentration camp, had to wait 36 years to come up with this bogus story about Skorzeny and the Nazis as Grailfinders. Avoid, if you are looking for historical data.

Total Speculation

I ordered this book because I'm very interested in WW2 and related subjects. I'm not really sure where the author got his "facts" and if you believe that the Nazi's located all the treasures he mentions I haves a bridge in Brooklyn that I want to sell. Buechner states that the Nazi's found King Solomon's treasure and the Ark so don't be gullible I advise you not to purchase his book unless you want to read a fictional story.

The ultimate teacher - the lonely friend

This must be the most comprehensive, complete and correct work available. The layout is very neat and systematic with exceptional line drawings. However, the colour photo plates are located at the back of the book and make for unnecessary paging throught this thick book. It also lacks adequate photos and colour drawings of many species. Apart from this it is a monumental work and a solid base for any reference work. The common names are the most correct I have come across and the aditional detail makes for good reading. The printing quality is very good and the hard cover essential. If you consider yourself a serious fish watcher or itchtyologist and you haven't got this book ... think again ! Enjoy !

My Review of Nancy Drew: Identity Revealed

The last book of the Identity Trilogy, part of the Girl Detective series. This book was longer than the other two, and was just as exciting as the first two books. Nancy is still being bullied by another user on the Better Life game, and what's worst is that Nancy's friends are all being attacked too. Someone is also using Nancy's character on the game to attack her friends. When Nancy discovers the person behind the bullying and invasion of privacy, she has to fight the culprit in the game while waiting on the police to find the culprit in real life. Very intense and it will keep you turning the pages!

Don't Even Bother

This book was absolutely terrible. I gave it one star because I couldn't go any lower and because the heroine was o.k. It is a rich man-poor girl Cinderelly kind of story. But it was awful. Blaze was the BIGGEST jerk throughout the whole book and even in the end he didn't show the slighest indication that he had changed. Chrissy was too stupid! The Big Misunderstanding was completely her fault because she was trying to spare the feelings of too many people instead of thinking about the consequences of her actions. Blaze had no good qualities at all. He treated the heroine like a servant, even after he married her. And Chrissy never found her back bone.
The book could have been good because it had a good premise. Instead it felt like we jumped into the middle of the story; it felt like there were pages of dialogue missing; and you NEVER, NOT ONCE found out what Blaze was thinking. It was all totally Chrissy's point of view. And the ending was totally rushed. Everything was wrapped up in about 5 paragraphs. This book was a big disappointment.

I had some how missed Lynne Graham's books. Until I read this one. I love this book. I went out and read everything else she has ever written. It is so funny an sad. The heros Blaze & Cristy are so wonderful. He thinks he is a rock but he just melts for Cristy.

Good Idea, Disappointing Story

I purchased this book because I thought the author would weave the fundamentals of trigonometry into an interesting story. I was looking for something along the lines of Kenn Amdahl's "There are no Electrons" which was funny and informative. But the instant book doesn't live up to that standard. Here, the fictional story is not only feeble but it gets in the way of comprehension. For example, the term 'tangent' is introduced as follows: "'The aerodynamic properties of letter blocks would make a fascinating study,' the professor said. 'Will you stick to the subject!' Recordis cried. 'You always go off on tangents!' 'Very well,' the king declared. 'We will call the other ratio the tangent ratio.'" I mean, come on! That's not insightful, it's meaningless. Ultimately, that's the downfall of this book. The story is juvenile and it obscures rather than illuminates the real subject of the book. My advice is to save your bucks. The idea behind the book is good, but the result in this case is disappointing.

I'm not a rocket scientist

Ok, so I'm an archaeologist, just finished my masters degree in archaeology. However, I specialize in 3D visualization. My master's thesis was on 3D laser scanning of fossil casts. Anyway, I don't have a background in computer science or math, but because of this book I was able to pickup enough trig to write a 3D graphics program and finish my masters. I'm no rocket scientist, and I hate borring math books. So say what you want about this book's corny storyline, at least it's not a list of formulas and numbers. I recommend this book.

Trigonometry The Easy Way

This book is terrific! My friend, a lifelong math-phobe, was making a last-ditch effort to pass Trigonometry -- the final class she needed in order to graduate with her Bachelor of Science degree. She was trying again for the third time (both her previous attempts had ended in WPs) when she found Trigonometry The Easy Way. The biggest problem she was having was this: while the college textbook gave the formulas, it didn't give her the "why" that she needed in order to understand when the formulas needed to be applied. Memorizing formulas is one thing; understanding when to use them is quite another. She and I (a reknowned math-moron) formed a study group, using Trig The Easy Way. We found that it filled the gaps, allowing both of us to gain a basic understanding of the reasons behind trig. It's written in a simple, fun, storybook-style, and it explains the practical reasons behind the formulas, not just the dry calculations. By using Trig The Easy Way in conjunction with her textbook, my friend passed her class. She made a B, in what had previously been an impossible subject. I can't recommend this book highly enough for people needing a simple way to understand a difficult subject. And in fact, now that she's studying for her doctorate in psychology, she's planning on buying a copy of Statistics The Easy Way, too. You can't argue with success.

11 Pages??? Seriously???!!!

11 pages do not a Kindle book make. Perhaps a pamphlet, but not a book. One can find this type of information on the internet, wikipedia and any of the true~crime sites.

Avoid spending your money on this. It already happened to me, and I regretted it. These pamphlets need to be weeded out from Amazon. What will it take?

Amazon, please have some respect for your clients and don't allow these scams to continue on your website.
